PALISADE HISTORICAL SOCIETY HISTORY TALK
Bruce Talbott -“The History of Our Fruit Industry and Where We’re Headed”
Thursday, June 22nd - 6 p.m. at The Ordinary Fellow Winery
<<...>> PALISADE, CO., (June 8, 2023) The Palisade Historical Society’s monthly history talk at The Ordinary Fellow Winery in Palisade will be Bruce Talbott, fourth generation Palisade fruit grower sharing the history of our local fruit industry and what it will be like in the future.
If you wonder why we don’t grow apples in Palisade, why peaches are so prevalent, and what’s next, this program will give insight into Palisade’s agriculture past and future. Bruce Talbott’s great-great-great grandfather Joseph Yeager pursued his dream of moving west and settled in the high altitude scenic Grand Valley in 1907. The operation then became Talbott and Sons and Talbott Farms. Talbotts Mountain Gold started in 1983 when they launched the apple cider business. Today, the sixth generation of the family is involved in growing fruit with more than 500 acres in production.
The talk will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 22nd at The Ordinary Fellow Winery, located at 202 Peach Avenue, in Palisade. This program is open to the public in a relaxed and comfortable setting for people to learn about Palisade’s unique history and enjoy a glass of wine. The tasting room opens at noon, and Le Snack Fine Foods will have food available for purchase, so come early.
The Historical Society’s website: www.historicpalisade.org, Facebook page: Palisade Historical Society, and The Ordinary Fellow Winery’s social media will include information about dates and topics of future history talks.
You can also visit the Palisade History Museum at 3740 G Road four days a week. It is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Admission is free, and donations are appreciated. Those wanting more information about the Palisade Historical Society are encouraged to visit www.historicpalisade.org or call 970-464-2177.
