Join former CMU history professor Steve Schulte as he explains how The Wilderness Act of 1964 was considered a foundational victory for the emerging environmental movement, though the reality, however, is far different. Wayne Aspinall did more to shape the ultimate form of the law than any other lawmaker. Congressman Wayne N. Aspinall grew up in Palisade and was a 12-term Congressional Representative from the Western Slope’s Third Congressional District. Steve published Wayne Aspinall and the Shaping of the American West in 2002 which detailed Aspinall’s political career that encompassed some of the most crucial years in the development of the twentieth-century West. The talk will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 20th at The Ordinary Fellow Winery located at 202 Peach Avenue in Palisade. The program is open to the public in a relaxed and comfortable setting for people to learn about Palisade’s unique history and enjoy a glass of wine. It is free admission to this event, and donations are appreciated.
